During the bottom of the first inning on Monday afternoon at JetBlue Park, Red Sox veteran Justin Turner was hit in the face by a fastball thrown by Tigers right-hander Matt Manning. The incident was frightening, and Turner was immediately taken to a local hospital via ambulance for observation.

Fortunately, it appears that Turner did not suffer a serious head injury. Manning has stated that the pitch was not intentional and plans to apologize to Turner.
